Shortbus [in Portuguese and English]

Shortbus é um filme realista, que mostra o sexo como ele é de verdade, quando visto de relance: estranho ou hilariante, ou bonito, ou tudo isso e muito mais, ao mesmo tempo. O diretor choca por mostrar muitas cenas de sexo, mas se a idéia principal fosse provocar excitação sexual, elas teriam que ser bem mais longas. O principal aqui é contar uma história sobre pessoas que querem ser felizes, e encontrar outras com as quais tenham algo em comum. Por isso o filme funciona tão bem, e nos deixa esperançosos ao final. Como diz um dos freqüentadores da festa Shortbus, as pessoas em Nova Iorque são tolerantes, e por isso são sadias, o que atrai a ira dos intolerantes. Mais do que nos acostumar a ver sexo explícito com uma boa história, o diretor quer celebrar essa tolerância.

The director shocks us for showing lots of sex scenes, but if the main idea was to provoke sexual arousal, the scenes would have to be much longer. The main thing here is telling a story about people that want to be happy and meet others with something in common with them. That's why the film works so well, and leaves us full of hope. Like one of the party-goers at Shortbus says, people in New York are tolerant, and so they are sane, and that attracts the anger of the intolerant. More than getting us used to explicit sex with a good story, the director wants to celebrate this tolerance.
