peace square

Rio to Sampa by bus. Tietê Terminal 5:30 AM. Subway. Brigadeiro Station. Walk to Ibirapuera Park. 7 AM. The Bienal opens at 10. I have 3 hours to walk around. I see the architecture, for everything is closed but the snack bars. I see A Planetarium. A City School of Astrophysics. A Monument to Japanese Migrants. A Japanese Museum. Peace Square is a patch of green in which you can sit down and almost not see the city, except for a couple of antennas and the top of two buildings under construction. The traffic sounds a bit like the sea from far away. I saw mushrooms that were smaller than the blades of grass. And beautiful yellow birds with orange foreheads. The sun was blocked by the clouds most of the time, so the air temperature was very agreeable. A very peaceful 8 AM saturday morning moment in the middle of nineteen million people.
