Visions of Laura

- So how was Cineclube LBGT 3?
- Fucking great, man! Laura de Vison was a powerful spirit! I saw her once at Banda da Carmen Miranda, during Carnaval Carioca! That's a queer parade of samba. I was in the crowd, when I looked up at the soundtruck, and saw her! She was a fat goddess of chaos wawing her nude tits at us and flickering her tongue like she was licking an invisible ass! I was excited and shocked and just went on doing the samba, with my eyes wide open! People were applauding! That was more than 10 years ago, I think! Like 1996 or something! Anyway, the first film shown was Mamãe Parabólica, a new wave short comedy from 1989, in which she plays a famous TV woman, her retarded daughter, and a weird professor! Low-budget delirium! Paraphrenic pop fun! Then we saw Na Calada da Noite, a documentary 16 mm short film about the fringe bohemians of Lapa in 1983 that, as it seems, was released only in 1986. If it got any wilder, you'd see graphic sex, man! And then we saw a 2005-2006 video called Laura, Laura. That was about her double life as a schoolteacher during the day and, as she says, a mix of transvestite, drag queen and transexual all in one fabulous creature during her nights in Rio! People were applauding and howling at various times during the movie! She really had a punk rock tongue, you know? Hitting really hard on sexual repression! Telling it like it was! She just spoke her mind, and we loved it!
